Discover is part of Capital One

Discover + Capital One FAQs

Get information about managing your account with Capital One.

We'll send you emails or letters with info on when and how to get started with Capital One. Until then, there's nothing you need to do, but make sure your contact information-including address, phone number and email-is up to date in your Discover account, along with your other settings and account preferences.

The Discover brand and network are not going away, but the way you'll manage your credit card account will change. Once we set up your credit card account with Capital One, you'll need to manage it using the Capital One website and app.

Keep using your Discover and Capital One accounts as usual. We'll let you know when your Discover account has moved to Capital One and what that means for your account. You'll be able to easily link your Discover accounts online with Capital One after they move-this will allow you to manage your accounts all from the same place.

No, primary cardholders will not receive a new card. Primary cardholders can continue to use their card, now and after your account moves to Capital One. Additionally, places where a primary cardholder has their current 16-digit card number stored online will continue to work.

Most primary cardholders will be able to continue to use their current card, with their existing card design.

Cardholders who are reissued new cards may receive a new card design based on availability.

We're working on a feature to allow primary cardholders to update their card design in the Capital One app.

When it's time to set up online access with Capital One, we'll send you an email or letter with info on when and how to get started.

When your account is ready with Capital One, you'll no longer be able to view or manage that account on Discover.com or in the Discover app. You'll use the Capital One website and app to sign in and manage your account.

If you have multiple Discover accounts, they may be ready to manage with Capital One at different times. You can continue using Discover.com or the Discover app for any accounts that are still with Discover, until all of your accounts are ready to be managed with Capital One.

Prior to your account being ready at Capital One, some features won't be available on the Discover website and app for a period of time. This is to ensure we move over your account information accurately. This includes making changes to account details and redeeming rewards. This will be temporary and you'll be able to access most of these features on the Capital One website and app after your account has moved.

Yes. Authorized users and joint account holders will receive a new card with their own 16-digit card number once their account moves to Capital One. We will let the primary cardholder know when the new cards are on their way. Until then, users can continue using their current card.

Yes. Authorized user and joint account holder cards will continue to be linked to the primary cardholder's account. All transactions will appear on the primary cardholder's statement.

Capital One issues unique 16-digit card numbers to every cardholder on the account. A unique 16-digit card number for authorized users and joint account holders gives primary cardholders more control by making it easy to track purchases by cardholder, lock individual cards and keep tabs on each cardholder's spending. While each cardholder has a unique 16-digit card number, each card is still linked to the same primary cardholder's account, including all transactions, balances and rewards.

Yes. You can continue to enjoy the 5% cash back rewards program with your Discover it Cash Back card or Discover More card. You'll still need to activate each quarter to continue earning 5% cash back on the eligible categories for purchases up to $1,500.

For Discover it Cash Back and Discover More cardholders, if you already activated your 5% cash back for the quarter, this will move with your account to Capital One and stay active for the quarter.

If you haven't activated your 5% cash back, you can activate it with Discover before your account moves, or with Capital One after your account moves.

Remember that you have to activate each quarter to keep earning 5% cash back on the eligible categories for purchases up to $1,500.
